focus on one or two actions until they are completed
With the talent and experience gained over the past 20 years, it is a shame to see some many good ideas just get started before they are abandoned for the next great idea.

A number of years ago, someone said about me something to the effect of “Grant would really accomplish something if he would pick one thing and really make a go of it, instead of spreading across so many different groups and projects.”
I thought about that for a while and came to the conclusion that I already had a focus: Drawing connections across diverse groups and projects.
When I started the Activist Network, I setup the tech side of things (web & email lists), but I also tried to act as a human activist network by going to all sorts of different events and groups. I was learning about all the different sorts of activism in the city, helping others become aware of that, and identifying opportunities for sharing, collaborations and linking up.
All that said, I do tend to spread myself way too thin :-)

Collaborative Action project & website
An idea I’ve had for a long time for bringing together the thousands of progressives in Calgary to do collective actions. My working title for this has so far been “We move as one”.
Some rough schedule, like once a month or once a week, there would be one action that everyone was encouraged to support. Actions might include:
• rallies, protests, marches, …
• letters, emails, phone calls to politicians, the media, corporations, …
• signing a petition,
• etc.By working collaboratively — across issues and groups — we could potentially make very significant changes in our society.… more

Heh. While this was posted anonymously, I’m pretty sure I know who wrote it (and it wasn’t David Swann or any of his staffers/party-colleagues).
I’m certainly glad to see David heading up the opposition in this province, and have much respect for him and his work.
I’d like to hear what others think of this suggestion in relation to the other things I could spend my time on.

General work on the Wayground web system
Wayground is my open-source website management system that I use for a variety of sites (Arusha, C$, Calgary Democracy, Greens in Alberta, Activist Network, etc.).
There are numerous functions of the system that could be improved or added to make it more useful. (See the forum for ideas and issues with the system: http://wayground.uservoice.com/ )

Contribute to developing Spacing.ca’s Calgary edition
Spacing is an awesome magazine (both in content and design) about public space, urban design, transportation, etc. Jane Jacobs would have loved this magazine.
They’re in the process of expanding their coverage to other cities, Calgary among them.

Professional Motivational Speaker on Activism
I think you could combine your passion and beliefs in this idea. Also any videos and media you are aware of or produce could be presented. Maybe even brand yourself as someone who can TEACH people HOW to be activists. I'll bet there are a lot of people out there right now who feel they can't contribute, don't have time or don't know how at all. So could start a wave like Mr. Smith goes to Washington,,,,, rally the masses, get them on the projects you believe in, start mini committees all around the country! eeeeeee
